Charges: SLP School Assistant Lured 14-Year-Old Into Gym, Sexually Assaulted Her
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A St. Louis Park instructional assistant is accused of luring a 14-year-old to the school gym and sexually assaulting her, according to charges filed in Hennepin County.
Jarrell Smith, 31, of Minneapolis faces second-degree criminal sexual conduct in a position of authority and fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct with a victim between 13 and 16 years old – both felonies – in connection to the Nov. 6, 2015 incident.
According to the criminal complaint, a 14-year-old middle school student reported that she was speaking with Smith after school and was upset about a grade she received. Smith then allegedly told her to go to the gym to speak with him about it.
There, he allegedly led her to an area that is curtained off and sexually assaulted her until she told him she needed to go home and left.
Officers say Smith was employed at the school as an instructional assistant, where his responsibilities included monitoring the lunchroom and hallways after school.
Smith is in custody and if convicted of his charges could face up to 25 years in prison for second-degree criminal sexual conduct charge.
