Charges: Armored Car Driver Stole Money From ATMs
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 23-year-old Robbinsdale man driving an armored car is accused of stealing nearly $3,400 in cash from ATM machines during pick-ups, according to charges filed Wednesday in Dakota County Court.
Malcom Elijah Scott was charged with one felony count of theft in connection with the case. The incidents happened between last December and March of this year.
According to a criminal complaint, officials with Dunbar Armored Car Company reported to Minneapolis Police on March 2 that they had discovered shortages in ATM deposits picked up by their company from two different machines in Lakeville. The shortages occurred between Dec. 1, 2014 and March 5 of this year. The amount missing came out to $3,390.
The complaint states an internal investigation led Dunbar to Scott. He confessed to the thefts to company officials. Scott admitted to police that he took the money when he would pick up the deposits from ATM machines.
If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
