Champlin Man Pleads Guilty To Murder Of Ex-Wife
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Champlin man plead guilty to murdering his ex-wife Thursday afternoon.
Robert Siegfried, 37, pleaded guilty to attempted premeditated first-degree murder in the death of his ex-wife on Labor Day.
According to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office, Siegfried told the court that he asked his ex-wife to come to his Champlin home to pick up their three children.
Prior to her arrival, Siegfried had removed the children from the house.
According to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office, when she arrived Siegfried stabbed her eight times in the neck and chest. She then fell to the floor and pretended to be dead.
Police said she managed to get out of the house and call police on her cell phone.
When police arrived they found Siegfried hanging from his neck in his bedroom and a note on his computer stating he and his ex-wife were dead.
According to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office, during his plea Siegfried had told police after his arrest that he did not want a lawyer because he wanted to plead guilty quickly.
Seigfried's attorney also said prior to the stabbing he had been in a state mental hospital receiving treatment for depression and psychological issues.
A sentence hearing is scheduled for Jan. 16. At the hearing a judge will be deciding between a sentence of 153 months of 180 months in prison.
