CDC: Men, Binge Drinkers Responsible For Most DWIs
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Men and binge drinkers are the most likely to drive drunk, according to a nationwide survey from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The survey found that binge drinkers were responsible for 85 percent of the nation's drunk-driving incidents in 2010. Four out of five of those offenders were men.
The CDC said alcohol-impaired driving is far too common and is a public health problem with far-reaching effects.
Nearly 11,000 people are killed every year because of it.
The agency proposes using sobriety checkpoints and ignition interlocks to prevent previous offenders from driving drunk.
