Caruso Wins Third Straight National Coach Of The Year Award
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – St. Thomas football coach Glenn Caruso has the luxury of enjoying Monday night's BCS national championship game in Miami, getting to watch Notre Dame face Alabama in person.
That's because for the third straight year, Caruso was named the Liberty Mutual Division III National Coach of the Year. He's the first three-time recipient in the seven-year history of the award. Liberty Mutual will make a $50,000 donation on his behalf to charity. Caruso chose St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Bucky's Pride and the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the upper Midwest.
Liberty Mutual will also make a $20,000 donation to the St. Thomas Alumni Association in his name as part of the award. Caruso earned the honor with a combination of online fan voting, media votes and ballots from the College Football Hall of Fame.
With Caruso's leadership, St. Thomas had its third straight 10-regular season and finished the year 14-1 after falling to Mount Union in the Division III national championship game. The 14 wins is a school record, and the Tommies have won three straight MIAC titles. In five full seasons, Caruso has a 57-8 record.
The award recognizes Caruso's success on the football field as well as in the St. Thomas community.
