Carlos Morris Dismissed From Gophers Basketball Team
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Senior guard Carlos Morris was dismissed from the University of Minnesota basketball team on Wednesday for conduct detrimental to the team, coach Richard Pitino said in a statement.
According to the statement, Morris will remain on scholarship and have access to academic support services for the rest of the school year. Morris, a junior-college transfer who was in his senior season, was averaging 9.8 points and 3.7 rebounds on the season.
Morris was not in attendance when the Gophers lost at Indiana back on Jan. 30 to attend a friend's funeral. He had played in 24 of 25 games this season, starting 16. He is the third player to be dismissed from the Gophers program under Pitino. Daquein McNeil was dismissed after being charged with domestic assault in an incident involving his girlfriend. Zach Lofton was also dismissed from the team but never played for the Gophers.
The Gophers (6-19, 0-13) host Maryland Thursday night at Williams Arena.
