Cargill Sues Omaha Meatpacker Over 2007 Recall
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- Cargill Meat Solutions Corp. has filed a lawsuit against an Omaha meatpacking plant over a 2007 beef recall.
Friday's filing in U.S. District Court in Omaha says Greater Omaha Packing Company Inc. sold tainted beef pieces to Cargill that were unknowingly processed into ground beef and sold to the public. About 845,000 pounds of the beef was recalled in August 2007 after consumers developed E. coli illness.
Cargill's lawsuit says Greater Omaha Packing violated the terms of its sales agreement by selling the bad meat.
A message left Friday for a Greater Omaha Packing executive wasn't immediately returned.
The lawsuit seeks unspecified monetary damages.
Cargill Meat Solutions is an arm of Minneapolis-based Cargill Inc., handling all its beef, pork and turkey business.
