Cargill Donating $250K To Second Harvest Japan
WAYZATA, Minn. (AP) -- Cargill Inc. is donating $250,000 to Second Harvest Japan, a Tokyo-based food bank delivering food and supplies to survivors of the earthquake and tsunami in northern Japan.
In addition to the grant to Second Harvest Japan, the agribusiness giant is also matching employee contributions to the Red Cross.
Wayzata-based Cargill says its business units also have contributed around $125,000 to the Japanese Red Cross and other humanitarian organizations responding in Japan.
Cargill says Second Harvest Japan is currently sending two large trucks every two days to hard-hit Sendai with food and supplies.
Cargill says it gives back to communities by contributing 2 percent of its global consolidated pre-tax earnings. It donated $57.5 million in 54 countries during its 2010 fiscal year, focusing on nutrition and health; education; and environmental stewardship.
