Car Loses Control, Killing Couple On Motorcycle In Big Lake
BIG LAKE, Minn. (WCCO) -- Indescribable pain, loss and intense sadness fills the eyes of Rick Fosse.
"I always told him, when you ride a motorcycle there's no mercy. If you hit something, more than likely you're going to die," Fosse said, fighting back tears.
His words rang terribly true. The son he'd nurtured for 31 years was himself the proud father of two little girls.
"Those kids meant everything to him," Rick Fosse said.
Brien Wickham and his girlfriend, Jacque Lee, were taking a quick motorcycle ride on Wednesday afternoon just before his kindergartner daughter would be coming home on the bus.
They were just a mile from Wickham's Big Lake home when the ride turned tragic. A car driving northbound on Sherburne County Road 17 suddenly crossed into their path.
"We believe the passenger car traveling northbound on County 17 left the lane of traffic, crossed the median center lane and struck the motorcycle," said Captain Steve Doran.
Sherburne County investigators were back at the scene on Thursday to do their accident reconstruction. They're trying to determine how 19-year-old Cody Moen of Monticello lost control of his car and went into the other lanes.
According to investigators, Wickham and Lee didn't have a chance.
"You just have to be careful of the other person, in this case there was nothing to be careful of. They couldn't stop," said Fosse.
The couple just met a few weeks ago. A friendship that was just beginning to blossom now has left two families gripped in grief.
"It's a big void," Fosse said as his eyes filled with tears.
Investigators want to talk to the drivers and passengers of perhaps two vehicles that may have seen events leading up to the crash. Anyone in the area at around 2:45 p.m. Wednesday is asked to contact the Sherburne County Sheriff's office at (763) 765-3520.
