Canterbury Park Cancels Ostrich Races Due To Bird Flu Scare
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- There is some breaking news out of Shakopee that is sure to ruffle some feathers.
Canterbury Park officials have announced that ostriches will not take part in this year's Extreme Race Day -- the park's most popular event of the year.
The ostrich omission is blamed on the same state rule that aims to combat the spread of avian influenza by preventing bird and poultry exhibits at this year's Minnesota State Fair and county fairs across the state.
Camels and zebras will still take part in this year's event, but Canterbury is searching for another exotic animal to race in place of the banished bird.
Extreme Race Day is Saturday, July 18. Click here for more information.
