Cambridge Man Convicted In Road-Rage Shooting
CAMBRIDGE, Minn. (WCCO) -- A Cambridge man was convicted Friday on charges stemming from the shooting of a man during a road-rage incident outside of the Isanti Police Department in 2012.
Joseph Duane Kadlec, 73, was convicted of first-degree assault, second-degree assault and reckless discharge of a firearm by an Isanti County jury.
According to a criminal complaint, Kadlec shot Kyle William Ronning in the chin during an argument after a road incident on southbound Highway 65 on Sept. 29, 2012.
Witnesses say Kadlec repeatedly and intentionally swerved towards two motorcyclists, one of them Ronning, while they were attempting to pass him. One of the motorcyclists kicked Kadlec's vehicle, which led to the three motorists turning on to County Road 5 and then to the parking lot of the Isanti Police Department.
Witnesses say an argument ensued, and a gunshot was heard soon after. Police immediately responded and found Ronning had been shot, suffering broken teeth and tissue damaged, with the bullet found protruding from his ear.
Officers say Kadlec, who has five previous road-rage incidents on record dating back to 2008, remained in his car during question and had a black handgun resting on the passenger-side seat.
Kadlec's sentencing date has not been announced.
