Burnsville's Brock Boeser In A Hockey Class By Himself
BURNSVILLE, Minn. (WCCO) -- Brock Boeser grew up in Burnsville knowing he wanted to be a hockey player. That's nothing new for a Minnesota kid, but he grew into his dream.
Boeser was the only Minnesotan taken in the first round, by Vancouver, in the NHL Draft. He will play his college hockey at North Dakota next season, all part of his hockey game plan.
"It's a dream come true. I really can't put it into words what it feels like," Boeser said.
He is a Minnesota hockey kid, and he always has been.
"I watched my cousin growing up playing for Wisconsin, watched my brother play high school and my dad played and all his brothers and my grandpa so I don't know, I kind of just always had it from the start," Boeser said.
He left Burnsville early and played for Waterloo, Iowa, in the United States Hockey League. He was a standout, in large part because he is persistent about hockey and he has a skill: Shooting the puck.
"I think the best part of my game is my shot. I've been working on it for a long time, I've got holes in my garage at home. Garage wall broken, light bulbs, so I just love to shoot the puck," Boeser said.
Because this kid was made to play hockey, it's in his DNA.
"Always since I've been at the hockey rink, going and watching the Zamboni, playing knee hockey at home and my brothers shooting pucks on me at home, I just love everything about it. It's just my passion," Boeser said.
