Burnsville Police Investigating Child's Death; Man Arrested
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection to the death of a 4-year-old child Tuesday in Burnsville, according to police.
At 5 p.m. on the day of the incident, Burnsville Police and paramedics responded to the 30 block of Horizon Heights on a call of toddler with a medical problem. But by the time authorities arrived, the child was deceased.
William Alphonso Warr was arrested near the scene for a violation of an order for protection, which prohibited him from being at the residence.
Warr allegedly crashed into the side of a garage at the scene, told police the car belonged to the woman who lives at the residence and fled when the police asked for the keys. He was arrested a short time later.
Warr was charged Thursday for felony violation of an order for protection; felony criminal damage to property; fleeing a peace officer, providing false information to police and driving after revocation.
Burnsville Police Sgt. Rory Bochniak said Warr is a suspect in the death of the child, but they do not know how the child died yet.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office and the Burnsville Police Department are continuing their investigation into the exact cause of the boy's death.
"Situations like this involving the death of child are extremely tragic," Burnsville Police Chief Eric Gieseke said.
Gieseke said police believe this was an isolated domestic situation with no ongoing threat to the community.
