Burnsville Man Accused Of Collecting Welfare After Winning $20K
PRIOR LAKE, Minn. (WCCO) - Investigators in Dakota County say a man hit it big at a casino and continued to take in welfare checks.
Jin Park of Burnsville is accused of winning nearly $20,000 at Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake, and then took in around $7,000 in government money.
Park claims he has already spent the money, but Dakota County Attorney Jim Backstrom says not reporting the winnings is a crime, and they will try to prosecute.
"There's a lot of folks in our county who need public assistance and are entitled to receiving public assistance," Backstrom said. "If individuals are defrauding and collecting that assistance inappropriately, it harms us all."
