Burned Cat Treated As Possible Obama Threat; Reward Offered
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO/AP) — Federal officials are treating the discovery of a burned cat in a south Minneapolis park as a possible threat against President Obama.
A park employee found the cat's body Monday near the Longfellow Park and Recreation Center, a voting location used in Tuesday's primary election.
The Minnesota Federated Humane Societies (MFHS) is putting up a $1,000 reward for information leading to whoever was responsible.
"This despicable act of animal cruelty will not go unpunished," said MFHS General Council Representative Tim Shields. "Those responsible for this cruel, torturous death of a house pet will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
An Obama/Biden campaign lawn sign was left standing near the tree stump where the cat was found.
The FBI, Secret Service and Department of Homeland Security are investigating.
