Buck Hill Lays Out Its Own Landing Bag, Skiers Flip Out
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Kids on winter break have something new to do – hit a big jump at Buck Hill without the risk of a botched landing.
The Burnsville ski hill has built a jump and put a giant airbag at the bottom of it. They did the same thing for one weekend last winter with the help of U.S. Airbag, a landing bag manufacturer.
This winter, however, the bag belongs to Buck Hill. The hill's general manager, Don McClure, said last winter's experiment was so successful they had to get one.
"They're not inexpensive, but like anything that's worthwhile...it all costs money," he said.
The bag is similar to what Hollywood stunt people land on after falling off a building. But this one works in cold temperatures.
McClure said the hill will have the bag out until Jan. 1. Until that time, the bag will be in use most days from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. – and on New Year's Eve it will be in use until 11 p.m.
