Lockdown Lifted At 2 Brooklyn Park Schools After Apparent Threat
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities say two Brooklyn Park schools were placed on lockdown Thursday after an unspecified threat.
Brooklyn Center police say that just before noon, they received a phone call from a man threatening to commit an act of violence at Park Center High School.
Authorities say because of the information the man provided, Park Center and Brooklyn Middle School were placed on lockdown. Several officers were dispatched to school property to provide security for the remainder of the day.
Police say there wasn't a direct threat by the man to commit violence at any other school, but at least one officer was placed at every Brooklyn Park school as a precaution.
Officials with Osseo Area Schools said Brooklyn Park police gave the all clear to lift the lockdown at both schools at about 1:30 p.m. Officials said "It's been an unusually challenging afternoon, but students at both schools have cooperated extremely well."
School officials said all students were kept safe during the lockdown, and Brooklyn Park police believe there is no safety concern at either school. Park Center students were asked to report to their seventh hour classes, and Brooklyn Middle School students are finishing the day as normal.
School officials say classes will resume Friday as normal.
Police say the threats are under investigation.
