Police: Man Struck & Injured By Train In Brooklyn Center
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A man in his 20s is in the hospital after he was struck by a train in Brooklyn Center Wednesday morning, according to police.
A spokesman for Canadian Pacific says the incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. and involved one of its eastbound trains and a pedestrian at the Azelia Avenue crossing in Brooklyn Center.
Train operators told authorities they were using their horns to try and get the man's attention, but it was unsuccessful. It is unknown whether the man was wearing headphones or not.
Police said the victim was conscious and talking to after the incident, but he did suffer spinal injuries.
Due to the terrain, an ambulance could not reach the crash site, so a firetruck took him to the nearest road, where he was loaded into and ambulance and transported to North Memorial Medical Center.
A spokesperson for Canadian Pacific says their thoughts are with the man and his family.
The train was moving fairly slowly at the time of the collision.
