Authorities Make Largest Meth Bust In Minnesota History
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The U.S. Attorney's Office in Minnesota says the DEA and local authorities in Brooklyn Park made the largest seizure of methamphetamine in Minnesota's history.
Dolores Ludmilla Castillo, 40, and Francisco Silvestre-Martinez, 27, are each charged with possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute on Wednesday.
According to the criminal complaint, authorities seized more than 140 pounds of the illegal narcotic on Monday. The bust was the result of a months-long investigation by the Anoka Hennepin Drug Task Force and the DEA.
Prosecutors say authorities first received a tip in September 2015 about a dealer involved in multi-ounce to multi-pound sales of meth. In March and April of this year, authorities conducted a number of undercover purchases from the dealer, and later learned that a home in Brooklyn Center was being used as a storage facility for the drugs.
On Monday, police raided the home and found dozens of quart-sized bags filled with methamphetamine, divided into one-pound increments. Officers later found evidence that Castillo and Silvestre-Martinez were the residents of the home.
