Brodkorb's Wife Says His Condition 'Improving' After Crash
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -– Michael Brodkorb's wife says the former staff aid for the Minnesota Senate is improving after being critically injured in a car crash late Wednesday night.
Brodkorb, 39, was driving a 2004 Subaru Forester northbound on Interstate 35E at Highway 13 at about 9:15 p.m. when he hit the bridge wall at the walkway and then came to rest against the concrete barrier.
According to the State Patrol, alcohol was detected on Brodkorb, and he was not wearing a seat belt. His airbag was deployed, and Brodkorb was alone in the car. He was taken to Regions Hospital in critical condition.
On Friday afternoon, Sarah Brodkorb released a statement: "Michael's condition has improved. We thank everyone for their concern, warm thoughts and prayers. As we focus on Michael's health, we ask that the media and the public continue to respect our wishes for privacy."
Michael Brodkorb was the chief spokesman for the Senate Republican caucus. In 2009, he was the deputy chair of Minnesota's Republican Party.
Michael Brodkorb was in the headlines last year when he was fired from the Senate after his affair with Amy Koch became public. He sued the state, claiming he was treated differently than female staffers who had affairs with male Senators.
