Brice Turang's infield hit gives Brewers win in 10th, 2-game sweep of Twins

Brice Turang beat out an infield hit with two outs in the 10th inning to bring home Willy Adames with the winning run, and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Minnesota Twins 8-7 on Wednesday.

Adames also homered for the second straight day and singled home the tying run earlier in the 10th to help the NL Central-leading Brewers complete a two-game sweep and win their fifth straight. Milwaukee rallied from a three-run deficit.

The Brewers trailed 7-6 before Adames led off the bottom of the 10th with a single up the middle off Jhoan Durán (2-6) that drove in automatic runner Carlos Santana. With Adames on third, Turang hit a chopper to the left side of the infield and beat third baseman Royce Lewis' throw to first.

The AL Central-leading Twins took a 7-6 lead in the 10th when Ryan Jeffers' two-out infield single scored Joey Gallo from third. Jeffers fell down on his way to first but still slid in safely ahead of the throw from pitcher Elvis Peguero (4-4), who initially mishandled the slow dribbler toward the third-base line.

REDS 9, ANGELS 4, GAME 1

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Shohei Ohtani hit his major league-leading 44th homer in the first inning before he abruptly left the mound in the second due to arm fatigue during Los Angeles' loss to Cincinnati in the first game of a doubleheader.

Elly De La Cruz had a career-high six RBIs with a three-run homer and a three-run triple for Cincinnati following the latest early departure of Ohtani, who has been bothered by nagging injuries on the mound all summer.

Ohtani faced six batters and threw 26 pitches before he departed with a 2-2 count on Christian Encarnacion-Strand.

The two-way superstar homered and pitched in the same game for the seventh time this season, with his two-run shot moving him past Atlanta's Matt Olson to reclaim the MLB lead.

Buck Farmer (4-5) threw 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for Cincinnati.

Tyler Anderson (5-5) relieved Ohtani and allowed just one earned run over 4 2/3 innings for the Angels, who have lost 15 of 20.

WHITE SOX 5, MARINERS 4, 10 INNINGS

CHICAGO (AP) — Automatic runner Tim Anderson stole third and scored the winning run on a throwing error by shortstop J.P. Crawford — all on a failed pickoff play — as Chicago snapped Seattle's season-best eight-game winning streak.

Anderson was leading off second base when Seattle catcher Cal Raleigh tried to pick him off following a pitch from Justin Topa (3-4). Crawford took the throw from Raleigh and threw wildly to third. The Mariners couldn't handle the overthrow and Anderson scored.

Sammy Peralta (2-0), the last of six Chicago relievers, earned the win.

The Mariners rallied for three runs in the ninth to go ahead 4-3. The White Sox tied it in the bottom half.
