Brainerd Residents' Love-Hate Relationship With Snow
BRAINERD, Minn. (WCCO) -- The wind is picking up and blowing all of the newly fallen snow in Brainerd. And the temperature has dropped. It feels like winter and while some love it, others hate it.
While siblings work to clear off their cars, the Litke's are also sounding off about winter.
"I've lived here my whole life, I pray for snow every chance I get," one sibling said.
The other? Not so much.
"If I could I would move to California."
Their love-hate relationship is one felt across Brainerd Wednesday.
Drivers got a nasty commute, while snowmobilers got the snow they've been longing for.
For many, the winter blast made their jobs harder by clearing sidewalks and parking lots. While students got the chance to take a break.
And when it comes to the temperature -- more disagreements.
"It's cold, it's beautiful, you can play in it," one said.
"It's cold, I don't like the mess it makes," said the other.
Overall, about 6 inches fell in Brainerd -- that's just the right amount for snowmobilers to get out their sleds.
And just enough to cancel school for the day.
"It's awesome. We live in Minnesota and finally there's snow and there's no school. And we're going to ride all day," said Taylor Halverson.
Brainerd Schools canceled classes and in this city, a snow day is all about snow fun.
"We're just having a blast out here," Halverson said.
Roads were dangerous overnight and Wednesday morning. But the State Patrol says only two crashes were reported in the Brainerd area.
Most waited for conditions to get better before venturing out to do their winter activities.
