Boys Hockey Class 2A Quarterfinals Results
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Here are the highlights from the second day of the Minnesota boys hockey tournament and the Class 2A quarterfinals.
The game between Grand Rapids and Bemidji last night went into overtime. It was a high-powered matchup between two great teams from up north. Bemidji's Alex Pollock scored both of his team's goals, including the game-tying goal 16 seconds into the third period. In overtime, Alex Adams scored on a close-range shot assisted by Mitchell Mattson, lifting Grand Rapids to a 3-2 victory.
Number one-seeded Eden Prairie looked the part against Anoka earlier in the night. Michael Graham, the captain, got a look and that was more than enough. They pulled away in the second period. Eden Prairie opens the tournament with an impressive 7-3 win over Anoka.
Moving onto Wayzata's game against Burnsville, down by one in the second period, Wayzata's Mark Senden started the comeback with this nice individual effort. The Trojans would score three goals that period, and hold that lead to the end of the game. Wayzata won 3-1.
Stillwater is the number two seed in Class 2A. Senior Jackson Cates scored two goals, and younger brother Noah, added another. The 4-1 victory sends the Ponies to their first-ever appearance in the semifinals.
Class 2A continues at 6 p.m. Friday when Wayzata faces off against Stillwater. The late game at the Xcel Energy Center is Grand Rapids taking on Eden Prairie.
Before that, Thief River Falls takes on Breck at 11 a.m., and at 1 p.m. St. Paul Academy plays Hermantown.
