Bovada Gives Adrian Peterson 12/1 Odds To Win NFL MVP
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has some of the best odds to win the NFL MVP award in 2015, at least according to the Bovada sports book.
The Las Vegas sports book released its NFL MVP odds Tuesday morning with about a month to go before the start of the regular season. Peterson has the third-highest odds to win the award that goes to the NFL's top player at the end of the season. He was given 12/1 odds.
Not surprisingly, he was also the only Vikings player listed among 33 of the top players in the NFL. The highest odds, also not surprisingly, went to reigning MVP and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers at 5/1. He completed about 65 percent of his passes last year, averaging nearly 274 yards per game with 38 touchdowns and just five interceptions in the regular season.
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck was next with 7/1 odds. Luck passed for about 297 yards per game last year, completed more than 58 percent of his passes with 40 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.
Peterson is poised to have a big season after sitting out most of last year with legal issues surrounding a child abuse case. He played in just one game, rushing 21 times for 75 yards and catching two passes for 18 yards in a win over the St. Louis Rams.
Two years ago, Peterson ran for 1,266 yards with 10 touchdowns and caught 29 passes. That was a season after nearly setting the single-season rushing record in 2012.'
While he'll be featured mostly in the running game, the Vikings are hoping to use him more as a pass catcher as well. If the odds hold and he stands a chance to win the MVP at season's end, it likely means Minnesota is a playoff team and could make a postseason run.
Other NFC North players listed with odds include Detroit receiver Calvin Johnson (25/1), Green Bay running back Eddie Lacy (25/1), Chicago running back Matt Forte (40/1), Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford (40/1) and Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler (50/1).
