Body Of Ecolab Executive Discovered In Amtrak Wreckage
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The body of an executive at St. Paul-based Ecolab was recovered from the wreckage of Amtrak 188 in Philadelphia Thursday.
Bob Gildersleeve is the eighth casualty in the crash that injured more than 200 people Tuesday night. Sixteen are still hospitalized, eight of whom are in critical condition. All are expected to survive.
Ecolab Chairman and CEO Doug Baker says Gildersleeve, who worked in Baltimore, was the vice president of corporate accounts. He had been an employee of Ecolab for 22 years.
Baker says the company is mourning their friend and colleague.
"Bob was an exceptional leader and was instrumental to our success," Baker said. "We will greatly miss him, and our thoughts go out to his beloved family members and friends."
The National Transportation Safety Board says the train, which was traveling from Washington to New York, hit a curve at 106 miles per hour when it derailed -- more than double the speed limit.
The train's engineer, Brandon Bostian, told his lawyer that he cannot remember what happened when the train derailed.
