Body Of 3-Year-Old Recovered From Brooklyn Park Swimming Pool
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The body of a 3-year-old girl was recovered from a pool in an apartment complex in Brooklyn Park early Monday morning, according to police.
Corrianah Mottley-Wright was found shortly after 1 a.m. in the pool at the Windsor Gates apartment complex. Family members described her as a lovely, beautiful young girl with a lot of energy.
According to the Brooklyn Park police, officers received a report of a missing child at 10:18 p.m. Sunday.
Upon arrival, the family told police the girl had been missing since 8:30 p.m. They realized she was missing when a group of kids she had been playing with returned home without her.
The group, which consisted of six siblings and some family friends ranging in age from 7 to 15, had been playing in the pool earlier in the day. There was no designated adult supervisor, although the mother was checking on them periodically.
"The older ones -- they feel bad because the mothers was checking on them, and they were all fine," Corrianah's grandmother DeAnn Mottley said. "It's hard for everybody. It's really hard."
When the group of kids went in for dinner around 8 p.m., they noticed Corriannah was not with them.
The family said they then checked the area but had not found her.
Officers then executed another extensive search of the area and located the girl's body in the deep end of the complex's swimming pool.
According to officials, the water was very murky and hard to see in, which may have been why the family had not found her during their search.
"Even though the pool wasn't that deep, tomorrow's not promised to none of us," DeAnn Mottley said.
The family did not live at the complex. However, the family said the kids had been playing at the pool for years. The family is friends with residents of Windsor Gates and the kids are often invited to play in the pool.
The pool, which closes at 9 p.m., was still open when the kids had been playing.
There have been no prior complaints at the apartment pool.
City officials said the apartment checked the water each day and had records showing it checked the water on Sunday.
The city of Brooklyn Park Health and Code officials are investigating the water in the pool to see why it was so cloudy.
At this time, police said, the apartment complex is not being investigated.
The incident is currently under investigation by Brooklyn Park police.
