Dayton Sets Conditions For Body Camera Bill
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Gov. Mark Dayton is setting some conditions for a set of body camera regulations to get his signature.
The Legislature passed a bill this month that makes most footage from police body cameras inaccessible. Only the subjects depicted in videos can access the files unless it involves an altercation that results in great bodily harm.
Dayton had expressed concern about the bill but wouldn't say whether he would veto it. He told top lawmakers Saturday to remove a provision that allows officers to review footage before writing an incident report.
Spokesman Matt Swenson says Dayton will sign the bill if that measure is removed and no other changes are made.
That's just one of several aspects of the bill that open government advocates have objected to. Negotiators from the House and Senate were expected to take up the proposed change Saturday evening.
