Blockbuster Video Announces It's Closing
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – It could be considered a sign of the digital times we're in as a popular video rental franchise announced its shutting down.
Blockbuster Video has announced its closing all of its rental stores and its latest DVD-by-mail service. Officials said there are 300 stores left nationwide, with four that are currently open in Minnesota. Those locations are in West St. Paul, Minneapolis, Bloomington and Rosemount. They will close in January.
Officials said Blockbuster filed for bankruptcy back in 2011. They simply can't keep up video rental sales with competition including Netflix and other digital streaming companies.
