BLM Minneapolis Facebook Page Restored After Brief Shutdown
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Black Lives Matter Minneapolis claims that Facebook has deactivated their page for violating the social networking site's terms and community standards.
The group said that Facebook unpublished their page after they shared posts about a St. Paul officer who, on Facebook, left comments encouraging people to drive into protesters on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Black Lives Matter Minneapolis also claims on Twitter that a number of personal accounts affiliated with the organization's official Facebook page have also been suspended.
"Whose side is Facebook on?," the organization tweeted. "A cop that advocated for running over protestors, or BlackLivesMatter-MPLS?"
Sgt. Jeff Rothecker apologized for the comments last week, but Black Lives Matter St. Paul said they're not satisfied. They said they want to see Rothecker not only fired and facing criminal charges, but that they want to see any criminal cases he has been involved in investigating reopened to "check for any bias or corruption."
"I think it's time that career comes to an end," Black Lives Matter St. Paul's Rashad Turner said.
The Black Lives Matter Minneapolis Facebook page had been restored by about 1 p.m. Tuesday.
