Bills With Big Pieces Of Minn. Budget Circulate

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Republicans are ready to outline how they would change state spending for schools, health programs and basic government operations.

Detailed spending proposals for key parts of the budget were due out Monday. Various portions are emerging at different times in the House and Senate from majority Republicans.

Leaders in both chambers say they'll keep school spending largely flat but change the way the billions of state dollars are distributed. Programs covering health and welfare will be cut from projected spending levels.

As they set the next two-year budget, lawmakers are trying to solve an anticipated $5 billion deficit.

Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton put out a state budget plan in February. Revisions to that proposal are expected Monday because an improved economic forecast allowed him a chance to temper unpopular aspects.
