Big Ten Baseball: Better Despite The Weather
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana is the top seed for the Big Ten baseball tournament, and coach Tracy Smith has an honest admission to make.
He wouldn't mind all that much if the Hoosiers didn't win it.
Smith spoke Tuesday at Target Field, the home of the Minnesota Twins and the first major-league site the event has had. Smith says he'll be coaching his team to play its best, of course. But he feels Indiana's season has been strong enough to make the NCAA tournament, no matter what.
If another team wins the double-elimination draw this weekend, well, that would be one more Big Ten entry in the 64-team national field. And that would be another sign of progress for a league that struggles to keep up in a sport dominated by southern schools.
