School Mourns Death Of Coach, Teacher
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A school is mourning the loss of a well-respected teacher and coach.
The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa School District, located west of St. Cloud in central Minnesota, says Rich Vos was killed this morning on his bike when he was hit by a semi.
Vos was a long-time math teacher, and a wrestling and track coach.
The State Patrol says Vos was hit near New London, Minn., around 5 a.m. on Tuesday. Vos was biking as part of his daily 20-mile routine. He always wore a helmet, and a vest with lights.
Authorities said Vos and the semi were both traveling south on Highway 71. Vos was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver is cooperating with police.
"He'll be sorely missed by all of our students, his colleagues, and the greater community members of B-B-E schools," said superintendent Matt Bullard.
He leaves behind a wife and two children.
Authorities did say they found headphones near the crash scene, and are unsure if that played a role in the crash.
