Better Business Bureau Lists 'Top Scams Of 2014'
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Better Business Bureau (BBB) says scammers tried out some new tricks in 2014, but stuck with the classics as well, according to its informal list of the top 10 scams of 2014.
"You hate to use the word ambition when it comes to scammers, but they are creative and relentless," said Dana Badgerow, president and CEO of BBB of Minnesota and North Dakota. "They are also, often, professionals. It's important for everyone to know who and what they're up against."
BBB says that although the lists of scams reported and monitored by its staffers is long, these are their Top 10 scams in terms of their overall reach.
1. Bogus IRS calls
2. The Caller ID scam
3. Timeshare scams
4. Online Pet scams
5. Mystery Shopping offers
6. Tech Support scam
7. Sweepstakes/Lottery solicitations
8. Bogus postcard/Survey scams
9. Fake subscription renewal notices
10. Grant schemes
