The Festival of Lights is celebrated in many ways each year around the globe. Check out these events for celebrating Hanukkah in Minnesota. The whole family can join in the celebration to make December one of the most memorable months of 2012.

This holiday season, even those who are not Jewish will want to catch one of the plays at the Minnesota Jewish Theatre Company, as it celebrates its 18th professional season. "Hanukkah Lights in the Big Sky" by Buffy Sedlachek and directed by Scott Rubsam will be performed from Dec. 8 through Dec. 21, 2012. A season passbook for three shows can be purchased for as low as $51.

The Temple Israel in Minneapolis holds a number of events and services to celebrate Hanukkah. A popular event for families is the Chanukah Dinner at Minda Hall held on Dec. 14, 2012 from 6:45 p.m. to 9 p.m. There will also be a Chanukah Party held at Minda Hall from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Dec. 15, 2012. These are great events in which to join together and enjoy a delicious meal. There are services held before each meal so you and your family can make it a joint outing.

Referred to as the Hanukkah event for adults, the Minneapolis Jewish Federation will be throwing its own party at Minneapolis' own Hell's Kitchen on Dec. 15, 2012. The event will include an evening of live music from Studio Kitchen and fun and games which will benefit Mount Sinai Community Foundation Giving Circle. The MSCF Giving Circle supports improving better health and well being in the Jewish community. Ticket prices are $25 in advance and $36 at the door.

The St. Paul JCC will kick off its fifth year of the Dreidel Dash 5k and Maccabee Mini Mile on Dec. 9, 2012 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., with a new 10k option available. The race begins at Temple of Aaron and continues along Mississippi Boulevard through Highland Park to the St. Paul JCC. This is a walk/run event which is expecting more than 400 participants. The event is open to all ages and includes a Hanukkah celebration and community open house after the race.

Dec. 15, 2012 will also feature the 2nd Annual Hanukrawl (Hanukkah Bar Crawl) which begins at the Wild Onion for a pre party. The party bus will leave at 8:30 p.m. and continue to various local bars. Liquor, snacks, music and prizes will also be available on the party buses. The buses plan on returning to the starting area around 1 a.m. and it is requested that participants remember to wear blue and/or white attire. (This event is also not for children.) Pledges of $25-$36 are recommended.
