It may seem that summer will never arrive, but the Minnesota State Fair will be here before you know it. Now is a good time to plan a visit with the grandparents, especially to celebrate Seniors and Kids Day. This year, the State Fair will be held from August 22, 2013 to September 2, 2013. Seniors and Kids Day will take place Monday, August 26 and will feature a number of exciting events. Both seniors and children will gain admittance for $7.

The Minnesota Children's Museum offers a number of different levels of membership, depending on the needs of the individual or family. Grandparents are eligible for any level of membership which range from Passport to Explorer Passport and will receive the same benefits for the same price. The difference for grandparents is that the memberships include two grandparents and ALL grandchildren under 18 years of age. This membership is also eligible for special discounts with other local businesses which include discounts with Minnesota Zoo and the Xcel Energy Center.

Grandparents ages 62 and over receive discounted opera tickets with the Minnesota Opera Center. The discount is available Tuesday through Thursday only and may be purchased through the ticket office. Upcoming performances to watch out for are "Hamlet," March 2 through March 10, and "Tempo's: The Rogue Song" on March 23. Additionally, the Ordway provides wheelchair-accessible seats, restrooms and other facilities as well as large-print and Braille programs. Make sure to indicate any needs when ordering tickets.

Grandparents and families who would prefer to stay in and enjoy a nice seafood dinner may want to stop in at Coastal Seafoods and pick up dinner to go. On Tuesdays, seniors ages 55 and over receive a 20-percent discount and can choose from salmon, cod, crab and tuna – basically any type of seafood that grandma or grandpa have a taste for. Sushi and seafood preparation classes are also available.

Grandparents 62 years of age and older are eligible for a number of discounted season passes and patron cards with Wirth Golf Club. An 18-hole senior patron card can be used anytime Monday through Friday and includes membership benefits. Wirth Golf Club also offers adult golf leagues and golf school as well as junior leagues and academies.
