Now in its 31st year, the annual New Ulm Oktoberfest features a two-weekend celebration of all things German. Dubbed the "City of Festivals," New Ulm really knows how to pay homage to German culture. What this quaint festival lacks in size, it more than makes up for in German pride, delighting attendees with live polka music, horse-drawn trolley rides, authentic German food and plenty of locally brewed August Schell's beer. If you're planning on attending from out of town, snag a room at the Holiday Inn to be just steps away from New Ulm's Oktoberfest festivities. Oktoberfest events also occur in downtown New Ulm. Don't forget to grab yourself a souvenir at a local specialty shop (like some decadent "gnome-made fudge") while you're there.
