Pet owners love an excuse to dress their pets up in silly costumes and Halloween provides the perfect excuse to do so. Many animal-friendly local businesses use this fun holiday as an opportunity to hold fundraisers or to encourage socializing with other pets and their owners. Find the perfect Halloween outing for you and your four-legged friend on this list.

Price: Admission is free, however a donation to Homeward Bound is appreciated. To enter the costume contest, a $10 donation to Homeward Bound is required.

The 5th-annual Woof'n Treat Halloween Party is for owners and their dogs who love getting decked out in their best Halloween costumes and raising money for a great cause, the Homeward Bound no-kill animal shelter. This party takes place outside of Bubbly Paws Dog Wash at the Shops at Excelsior and Grand in St. Louis Park on Saturday, Oct. 27 from noon to 3 p.m. Space is limited for the costume contest. The Halloween party, hosted by The Paw and Pet Expo in Mankato, is a howling good time for pets and owners. Nearly 200 animals take part in the annual costume contest. There are also games for pets, a haunted kennel to walk through (if Fido dares) and a pool on site that your dog can take a dip in. Local vendors will be present to hand out goodies to kids or animals that want to trick-or-treat. A bake sale to raise money for the Brown County Humane Society will also take place. This event is on Tuesday, Oct. 30 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Lots of Minnesotans run with their dogs. But how many people run with their dogs while both in costume? That is what makes the Monster Dash 5K-9 run so much fun. Not only do owners get to take their dogs on a beautiful run around Lake Harriet in Minneapolis, but they have the chance to dress both themselves and their pet in goofy Halloween costumes and collect dog treats at the trick-or-treating stops along the course. The start time for the Monster Dash 5K-9 run is 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27. The race will have the same start and finish location near the Harriet Band Shell.
