Ever year, the Minneapolis parks and recreation board organizes and sponsors an event to celebrate Martin Luther King's legacy and the ongoing efforts of the community to promote equality. Live music and speakers are present at this hour-long celebration and individuals and organizations are honored for their promotion of unity throughout the community and state. Enjoy fellowship among your neighbors and help those in food insecurity by donating to the canned food drive also taking place the the recreation center.

The Luther Seminary, a school dedicated to religious training and academics related to theology, will be offering an amazing day-long program to inspire and educate the community on the gifts that Martin Luther King's life have given to society. Starting at 9:30 a.m., the program, which is open and free to the public, will take a look at MLK's legacy, the civil rights movement and the 1963 march on Washington, D.C. Stay for a worship service during the day and a complimentary lunch served to those in attendance. Breakout sessions look closer at topics related to race, poverty and the church's role in civil rights. Immerse yourself in education and history.

An annual celebration that takes place in the Minneapolis Convention Center is being broadcast live throughout the state to include all Minnesotans in a celebration of the life of Martin Luther King. The United Negro College Fund and General Mills are sponsoring this year's event which features speakers, music and community fellowship. In Duluth, the breakfast will be broadcast at a local church and open to those in the community that wish to attend. Get a great start to your day by attending the breakfast and hearing guest speaker Vernon Jordan, a modern-day civil rights activist and leader. The breakfast will be held at nine locations, many outside of the Twin Cities and even one in Wisconsin.

The Powderhorn Park Neighborhood Association will be supporting an event to honor the work of Martin Luther King Jr. and the impact of the civil rights movement. The event is geared towards families and open to all ages. Children will learn about equality and unity in the community through music, dancing and art. There are also fun activities surrounding West African culture and diversity. Lunch is served at the event and is included in the free program as well.
