Best Crepes In The Twin Cities

Craving for a French breakfast? This charming place has quiches, croissants and tasty omelettes, but many will agree that their crepes—particularly the Chef's Buckwheat Crepes—are the standout. Made with your choice of ham, Brie, and plumped raisin or spinach, roasted tomato and chevre, what sets this crepe apart is the buckwheat shell—firm, toasty (never soggy), and folded around delicious meat and fresh vegetables. It's a savory delight.

Known as a great place for brunch and dinner, Meritage has been called St. Paul's perfect French brasserie, but their crepe cart (which we featured in our list of Best Food Trucks) is the real crowd-pleaser. At least two crepes (one savory, one sweet) are served each day, weather permitting. Honestly, we're still dreaming about last week's prosciutto, arugula and Brie crepe, and butter and sugar crepe. Be sure to log on to their Facebook page to check out their new offerings, and to see if the cart will be rolling out that day. Bon appetit!

While you'll have to squeeze yourself into this tiny little shop, the crepe selection is one of the best, with sweet, savory and breakfast offerings to choose from. For a great lunch alternative, we recommend the smoked salmon with tarragon apple vinaigrette, but if you need a sugar fix, try their seasonal berries with crème fraîche. And if you're in the mood for some people watching, you've found a great spot—just grab a gelato and take one of the seats outside.

They get rave reviews for the frozen custard (available in shake, sundae and scoop form) and their sandwiches, but we think Glaciers Cafe deserves praise for their delicious, supremely addictive crepe filled with cheese and Applewood-smoked bacon (you can also get a cinnamon sugar option). Have it with a cup of coffee out on their outdoor patio this summer, and we'll guarantee you'll pretty much have the perfect breakfast.

This popular restaurant in downtown Minneapolis may not be French, but Bar La Grassa has one of the best dessert crepes we've ever tasted. The salted butter and caramel crespelle is the perfect ending to an exceptional Italian meal. Two supple crepes sit in a gooey caramel sauce and topped with deliciously fresh and sweet ice cream. Rich, but not heavy, this dessert is worth the drive anywhere. If you're dining with friends, be sure to scarf this down fast, it'll be gone before you can say "merci" (or "grazie").
