Bemidji St. Shuts Out North Dakota 1-0
BEMIDJI, Minn. (AP) — Jordan George's power-play goal in the second period gave Bemidji State a 1-0 Western Collegiate Hockey Association win over North Dakota on Sunday.
George's goal at 9:08 of the second period gave the Beavers (4-8-1, 3-6-1) their first win over the Fighting Sioux in 41 years. The last triumph by the Beavers (4-7-1, 2-6-0) over UND was Feb. 7, 1970. Bemidji State is 2-22-1 against UND all-time.
George's goal was his seventh for the season.
Brad Hunt assisted on the Beavers' only goal against UND goalie Aaron Dell, who had 23 saves.
Dan Bakala had 26 saves for Bemidji State. He kept the Sioux scoreless on six power-play chances. He made 11 saves in the third period.
It was Bamidji State's first shutout since a 7-0 exhibition win over Regina to start the season.
North Dakota pulled away from a 2-2 tie to win Saturday's series opener 5-2. Bakala had 31 saves in that game.
The loss by the defending WCHA champion North Dakota leaves it deadlocked with Minnesota State, Mankato for 10th place with four points. Minnesota leads the conference with 16 points.
