Bemidji Lands 2014 Governor's Deer Hunting Opener
FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (AP) — Bemidji has been chosen to host next year's Minnesota Governor's Deer Hunting Opener.
Gov. Mark Dayton made the announcement in Fergus Fall on Friday as part of the 11th annual festivities ahead of the state's firearms deer opener, which falls on Saturday this year.
The Department of Natural Resources says the Bemidji area is a popular deer hunting and travel destination because of its vast forests, including the Chippewa National Forest and the Buena Vista and Blackduck state forests. Lodging, dining and other services and also plentiful.
Dennelle Hilliard, executive director of Bemidji's tourism bureau, says they have a great public land base and wonderful natural resources for people to enjoy.
