Beer, Wine Sales Heading To Lake Harriet?
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- After a recent decision, beer and wine sales at Lake Harriet look more and more possible.
In a 5-4 vote Wednesday, the Minneapolis Park Board approved to support the liquor license application for Bread and Pickle off of Lake Harriet.
Kim Bartmann -- of Cafe Barbette, Bryant Lake Bowl and more – said she wants to offer four kinds of wine and six local microbrews -- with the beer cooler up in the roof.
"All of our customers, of course, are like, when can get a cold beer down there?" Bartmann said, referring to Lake Harriet.
Bartmann said they'll put up planters to delineate where you can have alcohol and where you can't. But the planters will be spread far apart to allow foot traffic to flow in and out.
Park Board Commissioner Anita Tabb is worried about congestion and that people will feel like they can't go in the bandshell space.
"I have grave concerns about the space that will be taken up if we start cordoning off," Tabb said.
However, Bartmann and more than 500 people who signed a petition in support think it will just improve what's already there.
"This is a public park and everyone is welcome here," said Bartmann.
It will cost Bartmann about $80,000 to build the infrastructure to serve beer and wine.
Now that the Park Board has recommended Bartmann to be given the license, there will be a public hearing April 29 and the full City Council will vote May 10.
