Beargrease Sled Dog Race Canceled
DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- Organizers of the annual John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon in northern Minnesota have canceled the event scheduled for January 2014.
Race director Pat Olson says organizers need time to re-evaluate interest in the marathon and raise more money.
Olson tells the Duluth News Tribune it takes about $50,000 to run the marathon and the mid-distance races.
This year's race was delayed for two months until March to guarantee snow for the event. In 2012, it was canceled because of a lack of snow.
The nearly 400-mile sled dog marathon is run along the north shore of Lake Superior.
