3-year-old Pine County boy fatally shot self after finding father's gun, warrant says
HINCKLEY, Minn. -- State and county authorities are investigating a child's death in the eastern Minnesota city of Hinckley.
The Pine County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a home on the 500 block of First Street Southwest just after 9 p.m. Tuesday after a man called 911 stating his son had shot himself.
Deputies arrived to find the injured 3-year-old boy and attempted life-saving measures, but, ultimately, the child died.
Investigators learned the boy's father and his roommate were in the basement of the home when they heard something upstairs, where the young child was alone at the time. Shortly after, they heard something fall on the floor and then heard a gunshot.
The father ran upstairs and found his son lying in his bedroom with a gunshot wound to his head.
Police say the father stated he had a 9mm handgun in his room.
While executing a search warrant on the home, investigators found four guns and multiple bullet fragments
The incident is still under investigation.
