Baseball Fans Celebrate The Game In The Twin Cities
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The 85th annual All-Star Game is still a few days away, but already fans are flocking to the Minneapolis Convention Center to take in the sights and sounds of baseball.
Twins spokesman Kevin Smith says there will be a chance for everyone to get into the spirit of the game, with a parade on Tuesday. And at Target Station, behind the field, they will be showing both the Home Run Derby on Monday and the game on Tuesday.
"If you want to come down and hear some live music at the amphitheater and watch the game in the shadow of the field, that's the place to be," Smith said.
He says there is a huge group of camera people and producers ready to turn the spotlight on the Twin Cities.
"We have an army of 800 camera people and producers to really bring this place to life over the next three days," he said.
As far as economic impact, Smith says the event brings about $75 million into the area.
"But indirectly, the exposure you get from all those thousands of people who are working is amazing. I saw two guys from Fox who were using the skyways because of the rain, and were just gushing about the city," he said.
He says it's important to remember that some of the streets downtown are closed because of certain events, so give yourself extra time if you're heading in that direction.
