Back-To-School Shopping Affordable For Low-Income Kids
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO)--Back-to-school shopping is fun, but also very expensive.
But for 300 kids in the Twin Cities, back-to-school shopping just got a little more affordable.
Target and the Salvation Army held a back-to-school shopping spree Tuesday, making sure low-income kids have the clothes they need for the start of the school year. About 300 kids in the Twin Cities and 12,000 nationwide received $80 Target gift cards to spend on school supplies, clothes and other necessities.
"The kids are excited, some are a little more shy than others," said Annette Bauer with the Salvation Army. "But you know what? Brand new clothes. They don't have to go to a thrift store, they don't have to get hand-me-downs, they get brand new stuff."
Parents provided a list of what the kids needed and Salvation Army volunteers helped the kids with the shopping.
