Bachmann Postpones Iowa Stops For Budget Vote
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann is rescheduling several Iowa presidential campaign events on Friday in order to return to Washington for a vote on a balanced budget amendment in the House of Representatives.
A news release Wednesday from Bachmann's campaign says Bachmann holds "unwavering support" for the amendment. She calls it a vote for "fiscal responsibility, cutting spending and reducing the national debt.
The Republican-sponsored amendment would require Congress not spend more than it receives in revenues unless three-fifths of both the House and Senate vote to do so. The Obama administration opposes the amendment saying it could put the economy at risk and force cuts to programs like Medicare and Social Security.
Bachmann's campaign says she'll be back in Iowa on Saturday.
