Authorities Seeking Public's Help Finding Missing Woman

Update: She Was Found Safe

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities in northern Minnesota are asking the public's help in finding a 79-year-old woman who went missing Tuesday after going out to pick blueberries.

The Itasca County Sheriff's Office says Janet Schanno left her home in Wirt, Minn., at around noon and did not return.

Authorities say it is "very unusual" for Schanno to be gone from home this long without money or a cell phone on her.

Schanno is described as 5-feet, 6-inches tall, weighing 149 pounds, with gray hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a yellow and purple jacket, a black sweatshirt, gray pants, and white tennis shoes.

Schanno drives a gray 2005 Ford Escape with a Minnesota license plate of 869HTV.

Wirt is about 130 miles northwest of Duluth.

If you have any information on her whereabouts, call 911 or the sheriff's office at 800-458-8732.
