Authorities Search For Semi Involved In Biker Hit-And-Run
ROCHESTER, Minn. (WCCO) -- Authorities are looking for a semi truck that they believe struck a man riding his bike and then fled.
The hit-and-run accident happened around 2 a.m. Saturday on Highway 52 in Rochester. According to the authorities, the man was riding his bike northbound near the Apache Mall when he was struck.
The semi truck is described as a 2010 or newer Cascadia model Freightliner semi tractor. The trailer of the semi was a cargo box with white or light-colored lettering, and there was possibly a design on both the front and rear sides of the trailer. The license plate and color of the semi is unknown.
Authorities said because of the impact with the bike, the truck is missing the passenger side fog light, along with the dark gray skirting around the fog light and underneath the bumper. They say the truck would have continued north from the scene but could have exited Highway 52 after the crash.
The biker, identified as Richard Zwart, 27, of Rochester, is listed in fair condition at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Anyone with information on the semi is asked to call the Minnesota State Patrol in Rochester at 507-285-7410.
