Authorities: Minn. Semi Driver Dies In Wis. Crash
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A semi driver from Stacy, Minn., died early Thursday morning when his truck collided with another semi in western Wisconsin, authorities said.
The two semis crashed just minutes before 1 a.m. on east-bound Interstate 94 near Menomonie, Wis., according to the state department of transportation.
The Dunn County Medical Examiner pronounced one of the drivers dead at the scene. Authorities said the deceased was a 45-year-old man from Minnesota who drove for Logistics Services out of Eagan. His name will be released after his family is notified.
The other driver involved in the crash – a 48-year-old man from Illinois -- suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Emergency crews brought him to a local hospital.
The crash detoured traffic, sending east-bound cars on I-94 to northbound Highway 128, to eastbound Highway 12 and then to Menomonie. When in the city, drivers could get back on I-94.
The crash is under investigation. Authorities did not say if the wintry weather played a role.
Travel, however, is not advised in western Wisconsin, where a two-day spring snowstorm dumped up to 15 inches of new snow.
